Big Thunder Mountain Reopens at Disneyland Paris in 2025

On June 21, 2025, Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland at Disneyland Paris will reopen its gates after months of meticulous renovation. Led by Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, Design & Delivery, Maintenance, and the Central Workshops, this iconic attraction shines anew, ready to thrill guests with its wild ride.

Iconic Attraction Returns with Renewed Splendor

Starting June 21, 2025, Big Thunder Mountain, one of the most beloved attractions at Disneyland Paris, will welcome guests back to Frontierland. Specialized teams with diverse expertise worked tirelessly to preserve the ride’s quality and its story, deeply tied to the Frontierland theme. Their efforts honored the original creative vision crafted by Walt Disney Imagineering.

Thorough Maintenance for Safety and Thrills

The renovation included extensive maintenance of the tunnels and tracks, with some sections completely replaced to ensure safety and an exhilarating experience. In a groundbreaking move, Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teams used drones to clean the mountain, enabling precise care. Water, visual, and sound effects were refurbished or faithfully restored, enhancing the attraction’s immersive atmosphere.

Restored Gold Rush Scenery in Stunning Detail

The intricate scenery of Big Thunder Mountain received exceptional care. Wooden elements, such as the Mill Camp Tower, were dismantled, restored, and reinstalled to maintain authenticity. Hundreds of accessories throughout the attraction and queue were cleaned, repainted, and patinated in the Central Workshops at Disneyland Paris. This technique preserved the weathered aesthetic of the Gold Rush era. Larger elements, like the “Lavinia” steam engine in the queue, were restored on-site to uphold the historical charm.

Vibrant Animal Figures Shine Anew

The attraction’s animal figures, including mules, opossums, and bats, were meticulously restored and repainted in the Central Workshops. Some, like the iconic goat, received entirely new designs, amplifying their presence in the scenery. These detailed touches enrich the lively Western world of Big Thunder Mountain, immersing guests in the experience.

Collaborative Effort for the Wildest Ride in the West

This ambitious project demanded close collaboration among Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, Design & Delivery, Maintenance, and the Central Workshops. The teams worked relentlessly to prepare the outdoor, year-round attraction for the future. Their dedication ensures that Big Thunder Mountain, famously known as “the wildest ride in the West,” continues to captivate guests with its thrilling blend of adventure and storytelling.
