The DisneylandForward proposal has now received final approval from the Anaheim City Council. This decision marks a significant milestone for the planned expansions at the Disneyland Resort.

Approval Process Completed

Following a preliminary approval last month, the Anaheim City Council has now definitively green-lighted the DisneylandForward project. The decision was unanimous and will take effect on June 7th. This approval enables Disney to develop new attractions, hotels, and retail spaces on previously designated parking areas.

Initial Steps of the Expansion

Ken Potrock, President of Disneyland, emphasized the extensive collaboration with city employees and the local community over the past three years, which has now borne fruit. The first project under the expansion will be the construction of a new parking structure on the east side of the resort, right next to Interstate 5. Although not mandatory for starting the project, constructing the structure would make little sense without the ability to redevelop the Toy Story parking lot area.

Future Developments

Once the new parking structure and pedestrian crossings over Harbor Boulevard are completed, Disney will begin developing the land previously used as the Toy Story parking lot. Plans include a new hotel, a convention center, and a dining and entertainment area. New attractions are slated to arise west of Disneyland Drive on the site currently occupied by Downtown Disney parking lots. Potential themes for these attractions include IPs such as Avatar, Frozen, and possibly Wakanda, Encanto, or Zootopia.

Looking Ahead

The D23 event in August may reveal more exciting details about Disney's plans for the resort. Many fans and visitors are eagerly anticipating how the Disneyland Resort will evolve.
