Symbolism of the Magical Keys
The keys are more than mere decoration, explains Sander de Bruijn, Efteling’s Designer and Manager for Design & Experience. “The beauty of these magical keys lies in their promise of new possibilities,” he says. Each key could unlock a new story, whether leading to one of the hotel’s many rooms or the enchanting worlds of Efteling. The signature key of the Efteling Grand Hotel, adorned with twin towers, an arched arcade, and a medallion bearing the hotel’s logo, mirrors the building’s architecture. From the staircase, guests enjoy a stunning view of the floating keys, some echoing shapes from the theme park. “You can’t help but wonder who each key belongs to and what door it might open,” de Bruijn adds, noting how they spark the imagination of guests young and old.
New Fairytale Book and Career Opportunities
The magical keys inspire a tale in the new book “Fairytales from the Efteling Grand Hotel.” Written by Ad Grooten and Maarten Kuipers, with illustrations by Job van Gelder, the book features nine stories set in and around the hotel. Available in Dutch and English, it will soon be sold in Efteling’s souvenir shops and online bookstores. Meanwhile, the hotel, opening on August 1, 2025, is seeking passionate team members.
