Efteling theme park prioritizes accessibility with a wheelchair-friendly Vermolen Molen, virtual queues, and sign language-trained staff. Discover how Efteling ensures an inclusive experience for all guests.
Wheelchair-Accessible Vermolen Molen
The Vermolen Molen, one of the Netherlands’ oldest carousels at Anton Pieckplein, is now fully accessible. A specially designed swan-shaped gondola allows wheelchair users to board without transferring, secure their wheels, and enjoy the nostalgic ride comfortably.
Accessible Attractions and Shows
Efteling provides extensive accessibility features. Wheelchairs and electric scooters are available for rent, and the park offers reserved parking, accessible restaurants, and restrooms. Nearly all attractions have dedicated wheelchair entrances, accessible with a Facilitätskarte and a companion. The Raveleijn show features a wheelchair-friendly grandstand, while the Virtuelle Droomvlucht allows groups to enjoy the experience together via headphones.
Danse Macabre: Inclusive Innovations
The Danse Macabre attraction features a fully wheelchair-accessible queue. Guests choose at the end whether to experience the ride with or without transferring. Those unable to transfer can enjoy a mini-show in “’t Gewelf” with a large screen, surround sound, scents, and lighting effects. The transfer zone is about ten meters from the chapel. Since April 2025, the Efteling app has offered virtual queuing to bypass physical lines. This option will also be available for Droomvlucht in July and August 2025, benefiting guests sensitive to sensory stimuli.
Support for Hidden Disabilities
Guests with hidden disabilities, such as autism, chronic pain, dementia, anxiety disorders, or vision and hearing impairments, can use the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower. This free lanyard with a sunflower pattern discreetly signals the need for support. Trained staff recognize it and provide extra assistance or time. For deaf or hard-of-hearing visitors, staff proficient in sign language, identifiable by an orange button, are available.
Partnerships with Foundations
Efteling collaborates with organizations like the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Autisme, Stichting Downsyndroom, GGMD voor Doven, Stichting de Zonnebloem, and Stichting Bartiméus to enhance accessibility for guests with diverse needs. A five-year partnership with Stichting Leergeld enables 80,000 people to visit the park for free each year. Efteling supports these initiatives through organized day trips, financial contributions, or expertise.
Exclusive Event: Wij als Ambassadeur
The annual “Wij als Ambassadeur” event opens Efteling exclusively to guests who rarely have the chance to visit due to limited social connections, financial constraints, or physical challenges. In 2025, these guests will access the park from the afternoon, with exclusive use from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Staff volunteer their time, nominate groups or charities, and accompany visitors during the event.
Accessible Accommodations
For overnight guests, Efteling offers wheelchair-accessible hotel rooms and holiday homes. These are step-free, equipped with adapted bathrooms, and, in the case of holiday homes, include private parking directly at the entrance, ensuring a comfortable stay for all.
