In a partnership with Europa-Park, the pediatric anesthesia department at the University Hospital Freiburg has been transformed into a captivating underwater world. This innovative initiative, inspired by the water adventure world of Rulantica, aims to create a soothing atmosphere for young patients.
Inauguration of the Underwater World
The ceremonial opening of the newly designed anesthesia facilities in the pediatric surgery area took place on February 27, 2024. Funded by Europa-Park, the rooms were inaugurated in the presence of mascots Snorri and Ed Euromaus, as well as Miriam Mack from the owning family of Europa-Park. This design partnership highlights the commitment to the well-being of young patients and introduces a fascinating world full of fantasy into the clinic.
Soothing Effect on Young Patients
The creative redesign is intended to ease the process of anesthesia for children. Prof. Dr. Hartmut Bürkle, Medical Director of the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, emphasizes the positive impact of the colorful and vibrant environment on the mood of young patients. Thanks to collaboration with a child psychologist, motifs were chosen that specifically promote positive emotions and give young patients a sense of security and comfort.
Expertise Meets Creativity
The creative team from Europa-Park worked closely with specialists from the clinic to create an environment that helps children feel distracted and comfortable during their stay. Miriam Mack highlights the importance of this atmosphere for the emotional well-being of the children. The illustrations by Anna Hüllner and Marion Touchemoulin, depicting a lively coral landscape with the playful sixtopus Snorri and other marine animals, have already received much positive feedback from the treated children.
