On May 20, 2025, LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort provided a striking backdrop for a large-scale height rescue drill. Regional emergency forces trained in realistic scenarios to prepare for extraordinary missions. Helicopters and special units collaborated closely with the theme park’s teams.
Core of the Drill: Realistic Training Conditions
Units from the Munich and Augsburg professional fire departments, the SAR Bundeswehr helicopter squadron from Niederstetten, and the helicopter support team from Neuburg an der Donau participated. To avoid disrupting park operations, the exercises took place outside regular opening hours. The goal was to offer emergency teams challenging and lifelike training opportunities. Scenarios unfolded at the park’s observation tower, the holiday village’s high ropes course, and surrounding wooded areas at heights of up to 50 meters. The teams honed specialized rescue techniques under demanding conditions.
Enthusiastic Feedback from Experts
Christian Eisele, former operations leader of the Günzburg fire department and coordinator of the drill, praised the event as one of the best in his 30-year career. He highlighted the outstanding planning and organization, noting that all participants are eager for a repeat in 2026. The SAR helicopter squadron’s crew emphasized the drill’s high complexity. “At LEGOLAND, we tackled challenges that go beyond our regular Bundeswehr training,” they stated. The realistic setting and collaboration with volunteers instead of mannequins were uniquely valuable.
Regional Significance
Manuela Stone, Managing Director of LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort, underscored the drill’s importance for the region. “It is a great honor to provide regional air rescue heroes with a suitable venue for their training,” she said. The theme park offers a unique environment for practicing unusual scenarios that are difficult to replicate elsewhere. While the resort is not a typical setting for air rescues, it supports the preparation of emergency forces. This collaboration strengthens regional safety structures.
Gratitude to the LEGOLAND Team
Special thanks were extended to the LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort teams. Volunteers who bravely ascended via helicopter ropes, along with operations leaders and the security team, contributed through meticulous planning. “Special thanks go to our dedicated teams here at LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort,” Stone emphasized. The food and beverage team supported the event by catering to all participants. This professionalism ensured the drill’s resounding success.
Preparations for 2026
Due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, planning for the next height rescue drill in 2026 is already underway. The aim is to once again create optimal training conditions and further deepen cooperation with regional emergency forces. These efforts will ensure the exercise remains a success and prepares teams for their demanding tasks.
