Last Saturday, crowds gathered in Rust under bright sunshine to celebrate the town’s Bürgerfest and the 50th anniversary of Europa-Park. The official opening of the new “Europa-Platz” opposite the Rheingießenhalle and a vibrant show program were the highlights of the day, showcasing the deep bond between Germany’s largest theme park and the local community.
Europa-Park’s 50th Anniversary and Europa-Platz Unveiling
The evening’s centerpiece was the ceremonial opening of “Europa-Platz.” In a joint discussion, Europa-Park owners Roland Mack and Jürgen Mack, alongside Mayor Kai-Achim Klare, highlighted the significance of the new plaza for Rust. The name “Europa-Platz” reflects the theme park’s European spirit and its enduring partnership with the town. Roland Mack reflected on their shared journey: “Europa-Park and Rust have grown together. This celebration honors the open dialogue and support that have connected us for five decades.” As a gesture of gratitude, Europa-Park planted a magnolia tree at the plaza and announced a donation to support European youth and education initiatives in the community.
Vibrant Shows Captivate the Audience
The Bürgerfest featured a diverse program that showcased Europa-Park’s creative flair. Performers from the theme park, the Fit & Aktiv e.V. association, and the Europa-Park TALENT ACADEMY provided top-notch entertainment. The standout performance came from the vice-world champion duo Ella Neumann and Hennes Gutmair, whose captivating act enthralled the audience. These performances underscored the cultural energy that has defined Europa-Park for 50 years.
Community Spirit and Charitable Contributions
Local groups, including Freie Wähler, Balthasar-Hexen, and Gabis mobile Essensbox, ensured guests were well-fed. A highlight was the cake sale, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit organizations einfach helfen e.V. and Santa Isabel e.V. Led by Mauritia Mack and Marianne Mack, these groups have supported social initiatives for years. Cakes were provided by Rust residents and Bäckerei Armbruster, highlighting the town’s strong sense of community.
