At Europa-Park, head coach Christian Wück announced the German women’s national team squad for the UEFA Women’s EURO in Switzerland. Alongside DFB sporting director Nia Künzer, he presented a 23-player team in the Switzerland-themed area, led by captain Giulia Gwinn. The blend of seasoned players and new talent aims to shine at the championship.
Squad Unveiled with Swiss Ambiance
The squad announcement took place in the vibrant Switzerland-themed area of Europa-Park. Christian Wück and Nia Künzer introduced the players who will represent Germany at the Women’s EURO. A highlight was the presentation of the players’ jerseys, showcased during a ride by the E- to B-junior girls from SG Breisgau Nord on the Schweizer Bobbahn. This setting underscored the connection to the host nation, Switzerland.
Blend of Experience and Emerging Talent
The squad combines seasoned professionals with promising newcomers. Sara Däbritz from Olympique Lyon boasts 108 international caps, followed by Kathrin Hendrich from VfL Wolfsburg with 83 appearances and Lea Schüller from FC Bayern München with 75 games. Eleven players who reached the UEFA Women’s EURO final in England three years ago bring valuable tournament experience. Seven players will make their major tournament debut, including Carlotta Wamser from Eintracht Frankfurt, Franziska Kett from FC Bayern München, and Rebecca Knaak from Manchester City, all of whom debuted for Germany this year.
Wück’s Confidence for the Championship
Christian Wück expressed strong confidence in the team’s prospects. He noted that recent Nations League successes have boosted the squad’s morale. “The anticipation for the tournament is immense,” Wück stated. “I’m confident we’ve assembled a balanced squad capable of tackling the tournament’s challenges effectively.” He emphasized that each player was chosen with conviction to play with joy, determination, and enthusiasm. Wück believes these qualities could propel the team far.
